TWI’s sister organization in Turkey DLD has just concluded another successful Sparks Program,  its signature leadership development program for university women. DLD also now has two important grants under its belt that are helping build the organization as a sustainable one.

In 2022, DLD was awarded a grant by UN WOMEN TURKEY as part of the "Strong Civil Space for Gender Equality" project. The purpose of the grant, which initiated capacity-building efforts, was to determine DLD's strategic priorities, expand the impact of the Sparks Program by effectively utilizing resources, and establish its position within the ecosystem.

TURKISH PHILANTROPY GRANT for the earthquake region

DLD has recently received a grant from the Turkish Philanthropy Fund Türkiye Earthquake Relief Fund for the upcoming 2023-24 academic year. We are delighted that we will be able to capitalize our years of experience working with young women and play a role in rebuilding the earthquake devastated region.

This grant money will be used for the Sparks Program that is now being further enhanced for the earthquake region:

  • Working with well-established NGO’s that have representation in the region, participating university students will be chosen from those affected by the earthquake
  • All social change projects that the participants are required to design and implement will address the needs of the region
  • In collaboration with academic experts, a new wellness and trauma component will be incorporated into the program providing these students with the tools, sisterhood and solidarity they need so that they can go on with their lives and studies.

With this additional funding, DLD will be able to include a record number of participants for the upcoming academic year. Most importantly, through their social change projects, these participants will be able to touch the lives of thousands of people and help play a role as they rebuild their lives in the region.
