TWI celebrates 10th anniversary with book launch

“Before the Sparks program, I could not even call the delivery service
to order water for my home.

For our Sparks project, I had to talk to mayors.”
– Ece, third year university student and second year Sparks participant
Early this year, the stories of TWI’s Sparks program history and some of its many successes were printed and published in book form. The authors are TWI founder Sema Basol and journalist Asli Cakir.
Aptly named “Sparks: Transformational stories of young women who dream of a better world,” the 180-page paperback made its debut at a press event in Istanbul in January. The occasion was attended by media, program sponsors and supporters. Now in its fourth printing, the book (currently in Turkish only) is available on store shelves in Turkey.

A series of book events in California are taking place this month. The first was in Los Angeles, attended by members of the Turkish American community. Subsequent events are taking place in San Diego and San Francisco.

Sema intends that the book will indeed be a spark of hope for all women, as well as a model for other women’s programs worldwide.
In the U.S., an autographed copy of the book is free with a donation of $35 or more to TWI. To obtain yours by mail, visit https://www.thetwi.org/invest-in-women-donate/ and send your name and mailing address to TWI in a separate email https://www.thetwi.org/contact-us/

TWI mission
We believe that a just and equal world needs more women leaders. For this reason, we developed the Sparks Program for university women of low and modest means. The unique and innovative Sparks program teaches these young women leadership skills so that they can thrive in their careers and become positive contributors to society.
